Culture is to Louisiana what the oil and gas business used to be - our most powerful commodity. Broadway South is an economic development initiative designed to promote Louisiana as a culturally driven economic powerhouse. With New Orleans serving as the frontline of this proposed economic initiative, Broadway South will lift the entire state’s pre-Katrina $5 billion tourism economy to new levels of prosperity, while also complementing and sharing resources with the filmmaking industry. Currently, Louisiana ranks third in overall film production - behind Hollywood and New York City. Broadway South’s economic goal is to create a permanent infrastructure–making Louisiana more appealing to all varieties of performing arts including movies, theater, opera, jazz, ballet, dance, concerts, variety entertainment and comedy reviews.
In addition to a rich cultural history, Louisiana and particularly the city of New Orleans currently offer a cascade of state and federal tax incentives designed to attract investors of all stripes to the area. The Broadway South initiative truly offers "Something for Everyone" across the state of Louisiana.
Today, we have for the first time in 150 years the rare opportunity to reconnect this beloved city to its famous river and embrace it in exciting ways. We have the opportunity to redefine and transform the crescent of the Crescent City into an internationally prominent waterfront. As this nation’s most soulful city, so often at the vanguard of American culture, we stand poised to realize a new, 21st century urban landscape that will become a model of design excellence. It will become one of the greatest riverfronts in North America. And it will become perhaps the most significant physical addition to this city, since the French Quarter.
